Structure of Liquid Water near Copper Actvated, Hydrophobic Sphalerite

The finding that electronic grade ZnS in cubic form becomes hydrophobic (that is floatable) upon copper activation without xanthate collectors needs an explanation. The article (1997) in the attachment below is an attempt made to explain. Recently X Wang et al reported that water at a hydrophobic silica surface show a lack of hydrogen bonding and also suggest the presence of water void or water exclusion zone at the hydrophobic surface.
